    Marvel Entertainment has details on the fifth season of Avengers Assemble, this time called Avengers: Black Panther's Quest. This season sees Earth's mightiest heroes helping the king of Wakanda defend his African nation. The season premiere can be seen at San Diego Comic Con on Sunday, July 22nd at the Marvel Animation panel. Attendees can also meet the cast and crew for an autograph session.

    RIP Steve Ditko

    Comic book creator Steve Ditko has passed away. New York City police officers found the legendary artist/writer dead in his apartment on June 29th, and estimate that he had been dead for two days putting his deathdate on June 27th. No cause of death was announced and he has no known survivors. Ditko was ninety at the time of his passing.


    Ditko was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on November 2nd, 1927. His father was a steel mill worker and his mother was a homemaker. He gained his love for comics from his father, reading the works of Prince Valiant, Batman, and The Spirit. He served in the army in post-World War II Germany and drew for a military paper. Following his discharge, he moved to New York City and studied under the makers of Batman. …

    Today is the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film is the latest from Marvel Studios and the twentieth film in their cinematic universe. It follows the adventures of Hank Pym, Hope Pym, and Scott Lang as they attempt to rescue Janet Pym from the quantum realm while fighting mobsters and the mysterious Ghost.

    The film features the famed acting talents of one Stan Lee as a bystander who gets caught in the middle of a battle. Kevin Feige and Lee serve as executive producers. Writing credit is given to character creators Lee, Jack Kirby, and Larry Lieber. Special thanks is given to John Byrne.

    Consider this a rumor for now. Discussing Film claims that Spider-Man Noir will be appearing in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. According to their unidentified source, he will be voiced by none other than Academy Award winning actor Nicolas Cage.

    Spider-Man Noir made his comic book debut in 2009, appeared in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions played by Christopher Daniel Barnes, and was recently part of Ultimate Spider-Man voiced by Milo Ventimiglia. He hails from an alternate universe set in the 1930s with his rogues gallery turned into mafia-style mobsters. He is one of the few versions to use guns.     RIP Denis Akiyama

    Actor Denis Akiyama has passed away following a battle with cancer. He was sixty-six years old. His son, Kintaro, said of his passing, "He went peacefully into the light on the morning of the full moon." Survivors also include his wife Danielle, daughter Miya, and brother Barry.


    Akiyama came to fame in live action as the yakuza assassin Shinji of Johnny Mnemonic and as the creator of Pac-Man, Toru Iwatani, in Pixels. In theater, he was part of Miss Saigon on Broadway, Song for a Nisei Fisherman, Road, and The Tiger of Malaya. He was known as the voice of Malachite on the original Sailor Moon.     July is here, June is over, and another poll has come and gone. Last month we asked which series' ambience music deserves a CD release.

    1. The clear winner with 62.5% of the votes was The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The score was composed by Guy Michelmore, who also worked on the direct-to-video animated features from Marvel and Lions Gate.
    2. Tied for second with 12.5% was X-Men by Ron Wasserman, Shuki Levy, Noam Kaniel, and Amotz Plessner; Spider-Man by Udi Harpaz, Shuki Levy, and Kussa Mahchi; and The Spectacular Spider-Man by Kristopher Carter, Michael McCuistion, and Lolita Ritmanis.
    3. Getting no votes were The Incredible Hulk by Shuki Levy and Kussa Mahchi and Wolverine and the X-Men by Dean Grinsfelder.
