    Michael Dorn Turns 66

    Today is the sixty-fourth birthday for Michael Dorn. Born in Luling, Texas, the actor got his start in 1976 as a bodyguard in the Oscar-winning film Rocky before rising to fame in 1987 as the Klingon Starfleet officer Worf on Star Trek: The Next Generation, a role he reprised in four films while becoming a main cast member in the spin-off Deep Space Nine. Also an accomplished voice actor, he was the title character on I Am Weasel, has played on South Park and Family Guy, and was Kalibak and Steel on Superman: The Animated Series. Marvel fans will recognize him as the voices of Gorgon on Fantastic Four, Kraven the Hunter on Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, and Ronan the Accuser on The Super Hero Squad Show.

    The Chicago Film Critics Association has announced their nominations for the best of 2018. Mahershala Ali has a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Green Book. Walt Disney Animation Studios and Sony Pictures Animation have a nomination for Best Animated Film for Ralph Breaks the Internet and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The winners will be announced tomorrow evening.

    Marvel Studios got a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Drama for Black Panther Mahershala Ali got a nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for his role in Green Book. Sony Pictures Animation and Walt Disney Animation Studios got a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Animated for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Ralph Breaks the Internet respectively.

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has won its second critics award. Today, the Detroit Film Critics Society announced their winners and crowned Into the Spider-Verse as the Best Animated Film. The film beat out Walt Disney Animation Studios's Ralph Breaks the Internet and Disney-Pixar's Incredibles 2. This is the second critics award it has won following the New York Film Critics Circle.

    Mahershala Ali was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in his role in Green Book.

    The Annie Awards, an organization dedicated to honoring achievements of animation in film and telelvision, have announced their nominations for the best films and television of 2018. Pixar's Incredibles 2 and Walt Disney Animation Studios's Ralph Breaks the Internet lead the list of nominations with eleven and ten respectively while Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows closely behind with seven.

    Happy Hanukkah 2018

    Tonight at sunset is the first day of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication, a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire of the 2nd century BCE. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days. The festival is observed by the kindling of the lights of a unique nine-branched menorah one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night.

    Krondon Voices Tombstone

    Rapper and actor Marvin Jones III, popularly known as Krondon, has revealed that he is providing the voice of Tombstone in this month's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Like Tombstone, Krondon is an African-American albino. He has also played African-American Albino Tobias Whale on the series Black Lightning.

    Zoe Kravitz Turns 30

    Today is the thirtieth birthday for actress Zoe Kravitz. She rose to fame as Angel Salvadore in the film X-Men: First Class. She followed that up as Christina in the Divergent series, Toast the Knowing in the Best Picture nominated film Mad Max: Fury Road, and Leta Lestrange in the Fantastic Beasts films. Outside of Angel, she is known to comic book fans as Catwoman in The Lego Batman Movie and Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

    Sony Pictures Entertainment has released press materials for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that features additional cast members not previously revealed. It should be noted that several of the cast listings could be considered spoilers so read on at your own risk.

    The biggest news is that Chris Pine will voice Peter Parker. No, he's not taking over for Jake Johnson. Presumably he will be voicing the Peter of Miles's universe, who is known to die thus prompting the boy to take up the wallcrawling mantle.
