    Today was the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards. The ceremony honors the best in United States prime time television programming from June 1st, 2017 until May 31st, 2018, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

    Henry Winkler won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Gene Cousineau on Barry beating Brian Tyree Henry for his role as Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles on Atlanta. John Mulaney won Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City beating Patton Oswalt for Patton Oswalt: Annihilation.

    Cry of Dolores 2018

    Today is the Cry of Dolores celebrating the independence of Mexico from Spain. It was on this date in 1810 that Roman Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bell of his church in Dolores in the state of Guanajuato giving the call to arms that triggered the Mexican War of Independence. The day is usually celebrated with the President of Mexico re-enacting the ringing of the bell with the very bell Hidalgo used.

    In the United States of America, today is Patriot Day honoring the three-thousand people killed during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. On that morning, members of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization hijacked four passenger airliners. Two were flown into each of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City causing their collapse. One was flown into the Pentagon causing massive damage. Another crashed in Pennsylvania on its way to Washington D.C., presumably brought down by the passengers taking control from the hijackers. It was the single deadliest terrorist act ever and the most significant loss of life for American firefighters and peace officers.

The series followed a group of FBI agents, focused on paranormal believer Fox Mulder and skeptic doctor Dana Scully, as they investigate various X-Files, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena, as they seek the truth about the universe while becoming involved in a vast government conspiracy. The series aired from September 10th, 1993 to May 19th, 2002 on Fox.

    The series was a hit with fans and critics becoming an instant hit. It became a pop culture phenomenon being referenced in numerous other works. Created in the wake of the original series's popularity, the series lasted twenty-two episodes over two seasons while introducing many aspects that would be used throughout the franchise.     John DiMaggio Turns 50

    Today marks the fiftieth birthday of John DiMaggio. He was born on this day in 1968 in North Plainfield, New Jersey. The actor has had a long prolific life as in the field of animation and video games. Most notably, he is the voice of Bender, the alcoholic robot, on the animated Futurama series. Gamers would most know him as the voice of Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War franchise. He has leant his voice to theatrical films like Walt Disney Animation Studios's Bolt and Zootopia and the Transformers films. He has occasionally appeared on screen himself like playing real life businessman Steve Ballmer in Pirates of Silicon Valley, My Name is Earl, and Modern Family. He also produced the documentary I Know That Voice about the field of voice acting.

    In the United States of America, today is Labor Day, a day to celebrate the contributions of hard workers by honoring the American labor movement. The day began in the late nineteenth century as trade and union labor movements began to grow with unionists proposing the day. It was first organized in New York City with a parade while Oregon was the first state to make it a public holiday. It eventually became a federal holiday in 1894. Since then, numerous other countries have followed suit celebrating their own Labor/Labour Day. The day also marks the symbolic end of Summer and beginning of Fall.
