Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Released

Today is the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film is a prequel to the Harry Potter series and the ninth film in the franchise. 15 Years of Justice Leage

Today is the fifteenth anniversary of Justice League. Based on the DC Comics, the animated series was the culmination of the DC Animated Universe that started in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series. The series followed the adventures of the Justice League comprised of Superman/Clark Kent, Batman/Bruce Wayne, Wonder Woman/Diana, Green Lantern/John Stewart, Flash/Wally West, Martian Manhunter/J'onn J'onzz, and Hawkgirl/Shayera Hol as they fight the combined might of their enemies. Today is the fifteen anniversary of the release of Halo: Combat Evolved. The video game puts players in the role of Master Chief, a cybernetically-enhanced supersoldier, as he crash lands on a mysterious ring world built by an ancient civilization. TV's Big Hero 6 Cast Announced

Disney has announced the cast for the upcoming television series Big Hero 6. Ryan Potter (Hiro Hamada), Scott Adsit (Baymax), Jamie Chung (GoGo Tomago), Genesis Rodriguez (Honey Lemon), Maya Rudolph (Aunt Cass), Alan Tudyk (Alistair Krei), David Shaughnessy (the butler Heathcliff), and Stan Lee (Fred's Father) are all returning to reprise their roles from the Oscar-winning film. Today is the fifteenth anniversary for the release of Monsters, Inc.. The fourth film from Pixar, a fellow subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, it features an alternate reality where monsters enter our world through the closets of children who scare kids for energy. It follows friends Mike and Sulley as they go for a record amount of scares until they accidentally bring a human child into their world. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders Released

Today is the release of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. The animated feature from DC Comics is a follow-up to the campy but much beloved live-action series from the 1960s. The movie follows Batman and Robin as they face Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman who have plans that would endanger Gotham City. Happy Halloween 2016

Happy Halloween! Originating in the Gaelic festival of Samhain, All Hallow's Eve is an ancient tradition typically celebrating the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. Nowadays, Halloween is a day to dress up in costume to go trick or treating for candy and carving Jack-o'-Lanterns.

75 Years of Mount Rushmore

Today is the seventy-fifth anniversary of the completion of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in the Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota. The massive carving features the likeness of the four Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.


The memorial was conceived as a way to increase tourism into the South Dakota region and was built during the Great Depression to increase jobs during the troubled times. Construction began in 1927 and designer Gutzon Borglum died never seeing its completion. There was originally intended to be more of each figure but lack of funding forced the project to end with just the faces. 50 Years of The Marvel Super Heroes

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the very beginnings of Marvel Comics-based animation with The Marvel Super Heroes. The series debuted on September 1st, 1966 with the three related episodes "The Origin of Captain America", "Wreckers Among Us", and "Enter Red Skull" and lasted a mere three months with sixty-five episodes ending December 1st, 1966.

RIP Michael Massee

Michael Massee has passed away at the age of sixty-one following a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Ellen.

Massee was in several comic book related roles. Marvel fans will know him as Bruce Banner on Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers II while in live action he was the man in the shadows Gustav Fiers/Gentleman in the films The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. DC fans will remember him as Armando in the film Catwoman and Spellbinder on the animated series The Batman. Voice Actors on Strike

In the first major Hollywood strike in almost a decade, SAG-AFTRA went on strike agains the video game industry at 12:01 AM on Friday morning. It is unlikely to be as disruptive as the Writers Guild of America walkout from 2007 to 2008 and its effect on video games is unclear at this moment.

The strike concerns residuals and new technologies as the union wants secondary payments for successful games while the industry is refusing to grant them. New York Comic Con 2016 Wrap-Up

Marvel Animation held a panel at New York Comic Con hosted by Cort Lane and Stephen Wacker. There they discussed their existing shows as well as upcoming projects.

The first announcement was that Marvel is partnering with the Funko toy company to bring a series of shorts. The first, titled Spellbound will feature Spider-Man and Iron Man confronting Loki. Another will feature Deadpool and Venom in a chimichanga truck. A third has Rocket Raccoon and Groot fighting the Collector.

They also revealed that Marvel Cinematic Universe actress Hayley Atwell will join the cast of Avengers Assemble reprising her role of Agent Peggy Carter.

The panel revealed that for the upcoming Ant-Man shorts Josh Keaton will be playing Ant-Man while Melissa Rauch is Wasp.

Luke Cage Released

Today is the release of Luke Cage from Marvel Entertainment. The latest entry to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also the third series to debut on the Netflix streaming service after Daredevil and Jessica Jones. This series is a spin-off from the Jessica Jones series and follows Luke Cage's own adventures as the multiple series build towards the crossover series The Defenders. 15 Years of Star Trek: Enterprise

Today is the fifteenth anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek: Enterprise. The series was the sixth in the popular Star Trek franchise and the only prequel, having spun-off from the time traveling film Star Trek: First Contact and being set before the original Star Trek series. Enterprise followed the crew of the title ship as humans first began to explore the galaxy while building to the formation of the United Federation of Planets that is well established in the other series. Today marks the thirty-fifth anniversary of the premiere of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends with the episode "The Triumph of the Green Goblin". This marked the first time that a single Marvel character appeared on two separate animated series, as the series titled Spider-Man was currently airing. Amazing Friends, being made by Marvel Productions, constituted a loose sequel as it used animation from the solo series as flashbacks. 15 Years of the September 11th Attacks

In the United States of America, today is Patriot Day honoring the three-thousand people killed during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 in addition to the destruction of several of the World Trade Center buildings and damage to the Pentagon. Terrorists had previously tried to destroy the WTC before but only did relatively minimal damage, an event referenced in the Spider-Man episode "Duel of the Hunters", but later removed in syndication out of respect for the 9-11 victims.

20 Years of The Incredible Hulk

Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of The Incredible Hulk with "The Return of the Beast, Part One" debuting on this date in 1996. The Emmy-winning series was part of the Marvel Animated Universe and was a spin-off from Hulk's appearances on the Fantastic Four episode "Nightmare in Green" and the Iron Man episode "Hulk Buster". The series was the first to debut on UPN as the previous series aired on Fox Kids.

Today is the fiftieth anniversary of the premiere episode of Star Trek titled "The Man Trap". It was actually the sixth episode produced, though the first to air, following four in the ongoing production and the original pilot. August 2016 Poll Results

Another poll wraps up as another month comes to a close. Last month we asked which animated film villain was the best. There were plenty of options but one came out the clear winner.


  1. It wasn't even close as Ultron of Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow came in first with 58.3%. Of all the film villains, the robot was the most successful as it killed all but two of the world's superheroes. 10 Years of Ultimate Avengers

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the release of both Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers II, being released on February 21st and August 8th respectively. These were the first two of eight direct-to-video features from Marvel Animation and Lions Gate Home Entertainment. The purpose for the animated films were to create the stories that the live action films could not, at least at the time.


The first film was based on the early The Ultimate comics by Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch. This story was chosen to bring together many well-known personalities, and be a kind of The Dirty Dozen. Jack Kirby's 99th Birthday

In the comic book world, there are few names more well-known than Jack Kirby. Born Jacob Kurtzberg, he has been a part of the creation of some of the most well known characters including, but by no means limited to, Captain America, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, and Silver Surfer along with fellow legends Stan Lee and Joe Simon. Today would have been his ninety-ninth birthday.

To animation fans, Kirby created the original artwork used in The Marvel Super Heroes in a process known today as motion comics. He also served as a storyboard artist on Fantastic Four. He continues receiving credit in television series and films for his creations.

Marvel Entertainment spent this whole week celebrating his birthday.

75 Years of Jeep

Today marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of Jeep. It was on this day in 1941 when the Willys car manufacturers began producing the Willys MB. Used for the military during World War II, they became popular for their off-road capabilities eventually becoming known as Jeeps. It was only afterwards that this became the brand name. Jeeps have become iconic due to their slotted grille while today's Wranglers still maintain the basic shape and look of the Willys.

Jeeps continue to be a part of military transport as well as popular among off-road enthusiasts. On X-Men, Wolverine had a Jeep, where the brand name was specifically used. They were shown as military vehicles in The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man Unlimited. Poachers sneaking into Wakanda us…

Kubo and the Two Strings Released

Today is the release of Kubo and the Two Strings. The film, the fourth from the highly acclaimed Laika animation studio, follows a boy in ancient Japan who must search for a magical suit of armor to put to rest an age-old vendetta. It features the talents of George Takei as Hosato.

Today is the release of War Dogs. Based on true events, the film follows two young arms dealers who get a government contract to sell weapons to United States troops in Afghanistan. It features the talents of Jean-Benoît Blanc as Bashkim.

Jonathan Frakes Turns 64

Today is the sixty-fourth birthday of Jonathan Frakes. The actor is best known for his role as Commander William T. Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation, who went on to direct several episodes of that series as well as the spin-offs Deep Space Nine and Voyager in addition to the two theatrical films First Contact and Insurrection. He is known to Marvel fans as High Evolutionary on The Super Hero Squad Show and J'Son on Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Return of Solarman

Unless you're really steeped in the history of Marvel Comics, or at least browse around this site, you're unlikely to know the name of Solarman. Well, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s Stan Lee and Mike Zeck tried to create a new comic book series and animated series titled Solarman. While a pilot episode was made, the series was not picked up and comic book only lasted two issues.

Well, it looks like Solarman is being given another chance at the creator-owned Scout Comics. It will be spearheaded by Batman editor Joe Illidge along with Deadpool artist N. Steven Harris. This new series reimagines Solarman as an angsty and socially conscious hacker who is on the run from police, the military, and aliens.
