Doctor Deborah Risman is a scientist who previously worked for HYDRA and is the creator of X-23.

Biography[]

Risman was a scientist employed by HYDRA. She learned about the Weapon X program and Wolverine. Her task was to clone Logan to make another "perfect soldier." However, she failed twenty-two times. The twenty-third was a success, though instead of a male she ended up with a female clone, dubbed X-23.

However, X-23 hated her "father" and escaped. Risman defected from HYDRA and went to Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.. She told them of her project and hoped that S.H.I.E.L.D. could capture the girl before anyone was hurt.

Fury went to Wolverine for help. X-23 went to the Xavier Mansion, home of Wolverine's team the X-Men, and knocked out everyone there. Wolverine arrived and confronted the girl. X-23 relented her attacks and Wolverine let her go before S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived.

Background[]

Deborah Risman was voiced by Lisa Ann Beley.

Like X-23, Risman is an original character to the series. While X-23 was eventually adapted into the comics, Risman was reworked and became Sarah Kinney. Kinney was X-23's surrogate mother and used her last name.

In the comics it was eventually stated that the reason X-23 is a female clone of a man was because the Y chromosome was too damaged to use, resulting in the twenty-two failures, and the twenty-third was only successful because they used two usable X chromosomes.
