Donald McKinley Glover (born September 25, 1983) is an actor who played Kid Arachnid on Ultimate Spider-Man. He would have been the showrunner of the Deadpool series along with his brother Stephen. He performs as a singer under the name Childish Gambino and mcDJ. Glover also has a live-action appearance as Aaron Davis/Prowler in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which is a role that he reprised from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Biography[]

Growing up, Glover only read a couple of comics. He watched some of the animated series. His favorites were the ones where Spider-Man or the X-Men quit. He felt those stories were like It's a Wonderful Life in showing how important they are.

In May of 2010, a fan suggested that Glover should play Peter Parker in the then-upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man film. A fan campaign started with the hashtag "#Donald4SpiderMan". The campaign became so successful that even Stan Lee supported Glover for an audition. The role eventually went to English, and white, actor Andrew Garfield.

During this time, Brian Michael Bendis had conceived of an idea for an African-American Spider-Man for the Ultimate comic line. He claims that this was before the Glover campaign. However, he did base the look of the new Spider-Man, named Miles Morales, after Glover. On his show Community, Glover dressed like Spider-Man and Bendis said, "I saw him in the costume and thought, "I would like to read that book.'" Glover said he bought the first issue with Miles the day it came out.

When he did voice Miles on Ultimate Spider-Man, he said that it was a dream come true. He is actually older than Drake Bell, though Miles is supposed to be younger than Peter, a fact that Glover was conscious in his acting.

In December 2022 it was announced that Glover would star as the title character in a movie about the Marvel Comics villain Hypno-Hustler. The movie is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

Other notable works include Black Peter Pan, Human Giant, Bronx World Travelers, Mystery Team, UCB Comedy Originals, Robot Chicken, The Muppets, Regular Show, 30 Rock, Girls, Sesame Street, Troy Barnes on Community, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, The Lazarus Effect, Magic Mike XXL, The Martian, Earn Barnes on Atlanta, Aaron Davis on the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Homecoming, young Lando Calrissian on Han Solo, and Simba on the live-action The Lion King.
