Dr. Bruce Banner is that geeky kid you picked on in middle school--thick glasses, thick textbooks, thin skin. That's Bruce.

The difference is when Bruce gets angry--very angry--he transforms into a gigantic, raging id called The Hulk.

While on the run from {{C|Henry Peter Gyrich|ffwgh}}, Bruce went to the {{C|Fantastic Four|ffwgh}} seeking help. Bruce transformed and Hulk fought {{C|Thing|ffwgh}}. Eventually Gyrich found them and captured Hulk and the team. Eventually Thing caused Bruce to transform and they stopped Gyrich's men. However, Hulk once again fought Thing.
The Hulk while ostensibly a hero has the bad habit of breaking half the city he's visiting when he transforms, so he is rarely a welcome party. The government wants to catch him, Reed Richards wants to cure him and Ben Grimm wants to prove he's stronger than him. Most of the time "Hulk just want left alone."
