Robert Englund is an American actor, voice actor, television host, and director who played Vulture on The Spectacular Spider-Man, Dormammu on The Super Hero Squad Show, and Pluto on Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.. He is best known for his numerous roles in horror films, especially his portrayal of Freddy Krueger in all but one film in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Englund was born to Janis and Clyde Kent Englund, who helped develop the Lockheed U-2. He is a classically trained theater actor who began studying at the age of twelve. He studied at UCLA, California State University, Oakland University, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He got his first film role in Buster and Billie. He later auditioned for Star Wars but then recommended his friend Mark Hamill for the role. He then got a major role on the miniseries V and it's sequels. Englund's big break came in 1984 when he played Fred Kruger in the hit horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film was a major hit and Kruger became one of the most iconic movie villains. Unusual for the horror genre, Englund played the role in all subsequent sequels and television series except for the 2010 remake. He was nominated twice for Saturn Awards for his portrayal. He then played in many horror comedies following his Kruger success, though never to the same level of success. Recently Englund has begun voice acting. He played Felix Faust on Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the Riddler on The Batman, and appeared on The Spectacular Spider-Man, The Super Hero Squad Show, and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and the Directors Guild of America. He married his third wife in 1988 and they are still together.
