Tragically, he was the one who accidentally shot and killed co-star Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow. Massee was supposed to shoot at Lee with a blank-filled prop gun. Unfortunately, it was not properly prepared after a previous scene that used dummy rounds. When the blank was fired it propelled a dummy round into Lee. Lee was rushed to the hospital into surgery but died after six hours of surgery. The incident was ruled an accident. Massee took a year off from acting and was so traumatized by the event that he continued to have nightmares about the event long after saying "I don't think you ever get over something like that."
Other notable works include Tales from the Hood, Se7evn, The X-Files, The Game, Amistad, Nash Bridges, 24, Armando in Catwoman, Carnivale, Spellbinder on The Batman, Criminal Minds, Alias, Supershep in Underdog, Supernatural, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI: NY, House, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Man in the Shadows/The Gentelman/Gustav Fiers in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Rizzoli & Isles, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Blacklist.
Massee died of cancer at the age of sixty-one.
