Reed was dating Sue Storm when the two went into space along with Ben Grimm, her brother Johnny, and Victor von Doom. They were bombarded with radiation and given powers. With the exception of Victor, they formed the Fantastic Four while Victor became Doctor Doom.
Together they fought Doom several times, the Skrulls, Kree, Annihilus, and Mole Man.
