Russell Heath, Jr. (born September 29, 1926; died August 23, 2018), credited as Russ Heath, was an artist who worked as a model designer on the "Pryde of the X-Men" and designer on Solarman.

Biography[]

He started working for Timely Comics, the precursor to Marvel Comics, working on Western stories like Two-Gun Kid. He did horror and war stories for EC Comics. He co-created The Hunated Tank for DC Comics. He is perhaps most famous for his work on Little Annie Fanny for Playboy magazine. He did a number of illustrations for merchandise like battle scenes to advertise toy soldiers.

He got an Inkpot award in 1997. In 2009, he was entered into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. He was given a Comic Art Professional Society Sergio Award in 2010. The National Cartoonists Society recognized him with a Milton Caniff Award in 2014.

Other notable works include Godzilla, Blackstar, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, G.I. Joe: The Revenge of Cobra, RoboCop, The Karate Kid, and The Accuser.

He passed away on August 23rd, 2018 following a battle with cancer. He was ninety-one years old.[1]
