Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, is a legendary figure associated with the holiday of Christmas.
Santa is often portrayed as being old, having a long white beard, overweight, and wearing a red and white suit with a stocking hat.
Another part of the legend states that Santa watches all the children on his list. He then determines who has been good and who has been naughty and distributes gifts accordingly.
He is said to bring presents to good children on the night of Christmas Eve for Christmas. Santa flies around the world on a sleight pulled by eight reindeer. He puts the presents underneath the tree and often puts more in the stockings.
He has become the embodiment of the Christmas spirit.
Long ago, someone wrote a famous poem titled A Visit from St. Nicholas. The poem concerns a man sleeping on Christmas Eve only be awakened by Santa visiting his home. The poem is responsible for many of the modern day conceptions of the character.
Department stores will often hire a man to portray Santa. Families then go to the store so the children can tell the man what they want. Other people will also dress like elves to help create the illusion.
Spider-Man once called himself "Spidey Claus" when confronting a criminal named Patch on Christmas Eve.
In one department store, Santa and an elf where still working on Christmas Eve when a battle between Spider-Man, Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio entered the store. A Mysterio robot appeared and tried to blow up Spider-Man, Santa, and the elf.
However, Kraven attacked and Spider-Man realized that the Mysterio was an exploding robot. He quickly got the Santa and elf away before the explosion. He then asked if the two were going on the naughty list.
Santa was not named, though Spider-Man did call himself "Spidey-Claus."
