Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of Steel. Loosely based on the DC Comics superhero, the story finds John Henry Irons quitting his job after accidentally paralyzing a friend of his only to build a powerful armor to take down his rival and former partner who uses his technology to build weapons. The film was a massive box office bomb and was ravaged by fans and critics. The movie was criticized for bad writing, poor production values, and poor acting, especially from basketball player turned actor Shaquille O'Neal in the lead. Today marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of the premiere of Bambi. Based on the 1923 Austrian book Bambi, a Life in the Woods, the film was the fifth feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios. The film follows a white-tailed deer, the prince of the forest, as he grows up, learns about friendship and family, and deals with the threat of man.
The movie was not a critical nor financial success at the time it was first released. With World War II in full swing, Disney was cut off from the highly profitable European theaters and limited in the United States and eventually lost money. FX CEO Jon Landgraf spoke on behalf of Deadpool. Despite working on the Han Solo Star Wars film, Donald Glover and his brother Stephen are hard at work on the series. "They had a staff working in London while Donald was shooting Star Wars. He wrote the second season of Atlanta before London, had a staff in London, he's coming back to shoot Atlanta season two and simultaneously we'll be animating Deadpool. It'll be really different from the movies. It's animated and they're live-action, but also it has a different tone and editorial voice as evidenced by Donald and Stephen Glover, who have their own voice and tone. We really wanted to make something that was distinctly different from the movies."

Marvel's latest series, Spider-Man, is set to premiere August 19th at 7:00 AM ET on Disney XD.
