Today is the seventy-third birthday of George Lucas. Born on this date in 1944 in Modesto, California, Lucas is a writer, producer, and director who has worked on THX-1138, American Graffiti, The Godfather, the Indiana Jones series, and most famously is the creator of the Star Wars franchise. He formed the Lucasfilm production company, which is owned by The Walt Disney Company, as well as the special effects company Industrial Light & Magic and sound company Skywalker Sound. He also produced the infamous superhero movie Howard the Duck, whose failure resulted in him forcing to sell a computer graphics company to Apple founder Steve Jobs named Pixar, which too is currently owned by Disney.
