Marvel Entertainment and The Walt Disney Company announced that Walt Disney Animation is working on an adaptation of Big Hero 6. This is the first time Disney itself will work on a Marvel project and the first theatrical Marvel animated project. The film will likely be released in 2014.
The Japanese team first appeared in comics in 1998 and is comprised of Silver Samurai, Sunfire, GoGo Tomago, Honey Lemon, Hiro Takachiho, and Baymax. It is unknown if Silver Samuri and Sunfire could appear in the film since Samuri will likely be in the upcoming Fox produced The Wolverine movie and Sunfire, being a mutant, is also owned by Fox.
Entertainment Weekly reports that the film is in early stages of development with no crew confirmed. Blue Sky Disney did confirm that Don Hall, who worked with Jim Cummings on Winnie the Pooh, is set to direct. Though BSD pointed out that the project is storyboarded but not yet fully green lit. Its on the Grid stated that Kristina Reed (associate producer on Kung Fu Panda) will produce.
More details will likely be revealed at Comic-Con next week.
